The Christmas Spirit

This picture is priceless. In case you are wondering that is Douglas stealing our thunder and standing in front of the camera. For some reason he has no eyes and it is very creepy. I am thoroughly amazed that we even have a Christmas tree up on December 11th and the only reason is Glenn. I am too lazy for holiday decorating. While I am typically a 'bah humbug' type of personality (don't get me started on Christmas music) I have enjoyed having our apartment decorated. It has been super busy ever since we got back from Arizona for Thanksgiving. Not sure what we have been doing, but we have been doing a lot of it. I am amazed at how much busier December is than other months. And it is rather inconvenient as there is a lot more that needs to be accomplished in December (i.e. gift buying). We will be leaving for an Arizona pre-Christmas on the 18th of December and then back to TX for the Christmas-Eve and Christmas festivities. On a side note, I have a habit of starting blog's or b-logs as I once thought they were called and then abandoning them after three posts. No joke, I have one from three or four years ago that ended after three posts saved in my bookmarks. So it is a minor Christmas miracle that I am continuing this blog after three posts. Please contain your excitement.

Fort Worth Anniversary Weekend Extravaganza

For our anniversary we decided to go Bed and Breakfast hopping in Fort Worth. We haven't spent any time in Fort Worth since 2003 so we were due for a return visit.

Here is the first bed and breakfast we stayed at, the Hattie May Inn. It was built around the turn of the century and was owned by one of the richest families in Fort Worth at the time. I read something about there being a shootout in the main room there and it being haunted, but Glenn wouldn't let me talk about it because it freaked him out.

Our second B&B was called Azalea Plantation. It wasn't a historical property like the Hattie May Inn but it was very nice all the same. We had a bigger room and it was 'An Evening in Paris'. Thankfully for us, it was nothing like any of the evenings I spent in Paris when I went there (think smelly subways, rude people, dog poop, and 100 degree temperatures). Here are some pictures:

The activities were rather varied of course as my planning abilities know no limits. We visited the Kimball and Modern art museums, the Omnimax Imax Theater, the Botanical Gardens, took in as much of the Stockyards as we could muster, and ate lots and lots of yummy food (the diet was on hiatus for the weekend). The marriage thing has really thrown my weight for a loop. I know it is conventional wisdom that after you get married you put on a bunch of weight because you have a lifetime commitment out of someone so they are stuck with you no matter what. Well for me I don't think that was it... It all started with an all inclusive honeymoon for 7 nights. Imagine.... all the booze and guacamole you can fit in your mouth for an entire week! That was the beginning.... let's just estimate 5-7 pounds. After that I'm pretty sure the Taco Bell, various other fried foods, and constant snacking added another handful of pounds. So I started Weight Watchers 7 weeks ago at my job and convinced my wonderful husband to follow the program with me. I had my weigh in today and so I want to brag on myself... I have lost 11.4 pounds! Glenn is down around 20 pounds which is out of control... I can't even begin to imagine how fat he must have been before we started. I kid I kid.... Anyways, I am super thrilled. Weight Watchers has been great for me to learn proper portion size and when I should stop eating. Glenn has been a little more resistant than I have towards the whole 'diet' thing. You know he has a misinformed view of dieting when his entire weight loss goal is to weigh the same amount as Conan O'Brien. I'm not even sure how he figured that out...

Newlyweds No Longer

I have mixed feelings about being pushed out of the Newlywed club. For some reason I am under the impression that being a newlywed is over after one year. I would google it but I'm pretty sure I'm right. On Monday November 17th Glenn and I will celebrate our one year anniversary. If you are newly married you are most likely rather familiar with hearing this question from that person you kind of know at work or a somewhat distant relative: "So, how is married life?" Isn't that a fun question to answer! Well I typically say something like this, "It's great, I don't have any complaints." To which the questioner inevitably replies, "Well of course not yet you are still a Newlywed." I never know how to respond to this kind of remark. While I typically mumble something about how that could be true, I wish I would have had the courage to take a different route: "Yeah, let's be realistic my marriage is going to blow in a few years!" or maybe this one "Lord knows it can't be going much worse than your first marriage!" I'm also starting to think that passing the one year anniversary will result in less of the "How is married life?" question in the first place. Not being a newlywed may have it's perks after all.
